Join Toronto Police Constable Megan McGarry for an important and informative session on the current social media and online environment that our children navigate every day. Constable McGarry will walk parents through what to watch for, how to recognize potential risks, and how to respond if your child encounters online harm.
The session will cover:
Personal and cyber safety
Common actions parents take online that may unintentionally increase risks—and what to do instead
Real examples of social media situations currently affecting students in Toronto
What parents should do if their child is targeted by cyberbullying
Tools and resources to help parents engage in meaningful conversations with their children about online behaviour
A version of this presentation has been delivered to LHS Grade 10–12 students over the past two years. Current Grade 9 students will receive a similar presentation from Officer McGarry in February.

About the Speaker
Megan McGarry is a Police Constable with the Toronto Police Service. Over her 24-year career, she has served in the Public Response Unit, Criminal Investigation Bureau, Youth Bureau/Family Violence Unit, and the Community Response Unit as a School Officer. She has also worked with the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team. Constable McGarry currently serves in the Community Partnership and Engagement Unit as the Toronto Police Service’s School Board Liaison Officer.
